Theodor Kruis

Theodor Kruis was a German tenor-buffo who trained for three years at the Munich Conservatory under Franz Hauser and F. W. Meyer. He began his career at the Mannheim Court Theatre, moved to Mainz in 1865 and then to Zurich, Breslau and Hamburg, and sang at the Hanover Court Theatre from 1873 to 1882 before becoming principal tenor-buffo at the Dresden Court Opera. There he took part in the 1892 premiere of Draeseke's Herrat, then created Ruger Aspeck in the premiere of Strauss's Feuersnot in 1901 and the Second Nazarene in the premiere of Salome in 1905. His roles included David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Mime in Der Ring des Nibelungen.
