Anton Erl
Birthplace: Vienna, Austrian Empire
Anton Erl was an Austrian lyric and buffo tenor, the son of the Vienna Court Opera singer Josef Erl, who trained him for the stage. He made his debut in Dresden in 1869, was recalled there in 1875, and became a leading member of the company and a Kammersänger; he created Ortlieb Tulbeck in the premiere of Strauss's Feuersnot in 1901, the Fourth Jew in Salome in 1905 and the Marschallin's Major-Domo in Der Rosenkavalier in 1911, retiring from the stage in 1912.
