Mikhail Sariotti was a Russian bass-baritone who created Nikitich in the 1874 revised Boris Godunov at the Mariinsky Theatre. Trained in St Petersburg under Pyotr Gumbin and in Milan under Pietro Repetto, he debuted in Cremona in 1862, then Milan, before joining the Mariinsky in 1863. Admired for his dramatic gifts in strong, characterful parts, he sang Olofernus in Serov's Judith, Yeremka in Serov's Power of the Fiend and Bertram in Meyerbeer's Robert le diable. In the 1870s he also directed the music section of the journal Universal Illustration.
