Hans Rüdiger

Hans Rüdiger was a German character tenor who created the title role in Hugo Wolf's Der Corregidor at the Mannheim Court Theatre in 1896, then the First Jew in the premiere of Strauss's Salome in 1905 and Valzacchi in the premiere of Der Rosenkavalier in 1911, both at the Dresden Court Opera. His other roles included Wenzel in Smetana's Die verkaufte Braut, Georg in Lortzing's Der Waffenschmied, and Mime and David, among his most celebrated parts, in Wagner's Siegfried and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
