Franz Petter

Franz Petter was an Austrian tenor who took over his father's joinery workshop at sixteen before training as a singer in Berlin, making his stage debut at the Berlin Court Opera in 1895. He sang in Prague from 1896 and Frankfurt from 1897, then joined the Dresden Court Opera in 1899, where he created Schweiker von Gundelfingen in the premiere of Strauss's Feuersnot in 1901. He appeared at the Bayreuth Festival that same year as Froh and the Steersman. From 1904 he was engaged at Cologne, remaining until 1911, and continued to give concerts until 1921; his repertoire included Lohengrin, Radamès and Turiddu.
