Minnie Nast

A German soprano known for light and soubrette parts, and above all for Mozart. She trained at the Karlsruhe Conservatory, made her debut at Aachen in 1897 and sang at Dresden from 1898 to 1919, creating Margret in Feuersnot in 1901, the Fifth Maid in Elektra in 1909 and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier in 1911. She was among the first generation of singers to record extensively, taking Micaëla in the first recorded Carmen and joining Margarethe Siems and Eva von der Osten for scenes from Der Rosenkavalier in the year of its premiere. A shipwreck in 1907 ended her touring abroad. She taught in Dresden until the bombing of the city in 1945.
