Annie Krull

Annie Krull was a German soprano who studied in Berlin and made her stage debut at Plauen in 1898. She joined the Dresden State Opera in 1900, and the following year created Diemut in Strauss's Feuersnot and the title role of Paderewski's Manru, both at their Dresden premieres. She was the company's principal dramatic soprano until 1912, and in 1909 created the title role in Strauss's Elektra, repeating it under Beecham at London's Covent Garden the following year, where she was compared unfavourably with the city's first Elektra, Edyth Walker. She was also admired as Salome, and after further seasons at Mannheim, Weimar and Schwerin, retired in 1916 to teach.
