Nikolai Kedrov Sr.

Nikolai Kedrov Sr. was a Russian baritone who created Rangoni in the 1896 St Petersburg Conservatory premiere of the revised Boris Godunov, during his own student years there. The son of an Orthodox archpriest, he studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory from 1894 to 1897 and sang at the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatres. In 1897 he founded a celebrated men's vocal quartet; his setting of the Lord's Prayer, Otche nash, written in 1922, remains his best-known work. He emigrated to Berlin after the revolution, then to Paris in 1928, where he taught at the Conservatoire Rachmaninoff.
