Hans Geißler

Hans Geißler was a German baritone who studied from the age of nineteen at the Nuremberg music school under Wilhelm Bayerlein, singing small roles there while still a student. He held engagements at Würzburg from 1888, then Aachen, Zurich and, from 1892, Breslau, where he had considerable success, before joining the Dresden Court Opera in 1901. There he created Kunz Gilgenstock in the premiere of Strauss's Feuersnot the same year. He moved to the Theater des Westens in Berlin in 1903, later working as a guest artist and eventually settling in Breslau, where he was also well-regarded as a concert singer. His roles included Papageno, Figaro and Wolfram.
