Pavel Dyuzhikov

Pavel Dyuzhikov was a Russian tenor who spent twenty-five years in secondary parts at the Mariinsky Theatre, his voice small but of pleasing timbre. Born into a merchant family and trained at the St Petersburg Theatre School under Ricci, he made his debut in 1860 as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore. He created Andrey in Gulak-Artemovsky's Zaporozhets za Dunayem in 1863 and Missail in the first Boris Godunov of 1874, and among his best parts was Arturo in I puritani. Dyuzhikov was a stage name; he was born Iroshnikov. He left the stage in 1885.
