Teatro de la Ópera
Emile Landois's Italianate house on the calle Corrientes, opened on 25 May 1872 with Il trovatore and the first theatre in the city to be lit by gas. Roberto Cano bought it in 1889 and had Julio Dormal remodel it in the Beaux-Arts manner, with an electric plant of its own, which was a rarity in Buenos Aires at the time. The definitive Edgar was first given here in 1905. Clemente Lococo had the building demolished in 1935; the art deco house that replaced it on the same site, the Teatro Ópera, is a different building.
