Teatro Comunale Claudio Abbado
formerly Teatro Comunale
Cosimo Morelli and Antonio Foschini built the elliptical auditorium between 1786 and 1797, the two architects disagreeing over its shape and settling on a compromise, and it opened on 2 September 1798 with Marcos Portugal's Gli Orazi e i Curiazi. Rossini's Ciro in Babilonia was first given here in 1812, and the three-act Edgar in 1892. The city named the house for Claudio Abbado on 21 March 2014, two months after his death; he had founded Ferrara Musica in 1989 and was its president until he died.
