Charles Garnier's hall inside the Monte Carlo Casino, built in eight and a half months and seating some five hundred, inaugurated on 25 January 1879 and altered for opera in 1898 and 1899. Under Raoul Gunsbourg, who directed it for sixty years from 1892, it gave a long run of premieres, La rondine among them in 1917.
