Scènes de la vie de bohème
also Scenes of Bohemian Life, The Bohemians of the Latin Quarter
Loosely linked stories of the Latin Quarter in the 1840s rather than a novel in form, most of them printed one at a time in Le Corsaire from 1845. A stage version written with Théodore Barrière came first, in 1849, and its success brought the collected edition of 1851, for which Murger added an opening chapter to introduce the characters. Leoncavallo set the same book in 1897, a year after Puccini.
