Madame Butterfly

Published in The Century Magazine in 1898. Long was a Philadelphia lawyer, and the story came to him from his sister Jennie Correll, who had lived in Nagasaki as the wife of a Methodist missionary. Belasco's stage version followed two years later, and Giacosa and Illica worked from both.
