Madame Butterfly: A Tragedy of Japan

A one-act adaptation of Long's story, first given at the Herald Square Theatre, New York, on 5 March 1900, with Blanche Bates in the title role, who played it in London as well. It became one of Belasco's best known pieces and, with the story behind it, the basis of the opera.
