Les Willis
Karr retells the central European legend of the vila, the revenant of a girl betrayed before her wedding, who with her sisters dances a faithless lover to death. It first appeared untitled in 1835, as the seventh chapter of Karr's Vendredi soir, and took the name it is known by when he collected it in Contes et nouvelles seventeen years later. The same legend had carried Giselle to the stage in Paris six years after Karr wrote. Fontana keeps the dance and the vengeance and moves the story to the Black Forest.
