Giovanni Zenatello
Birthplace: Verona, Kingdom of Italy
An Italian tenor who began as a baritone. He studied at Verona and made his debut at Belluno in 1898 as Silvio, singing Canio the following year, and was at La Scala from 1902 to 1907, where he created Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in 1904 and sang it again in the Brescia revision three months later. He took the title role in the definitive Edgar at Buenos Aires in 1905. Covent Garden heard him from 1905 and again as Otello in 1926. He later managed the Verona Arena, where he had opened the first opera season as Radames.
