Georg Wieter

Georg Wieter was a German bass who trained in his native Hanover and began his stage career at the Landestheater Gotha in 1922. He was engaged at the Nuremberg State Theatre from 1924 to 1935, taking part in the world premiere of Hans Grimm's Der Tag im Licht in 1930, before joining the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as a permanent ensemble member, remaining until his retirement in 1967. There he created the private soldier in Strauss's Friedenstag (1938) and the Major-Domo in Capriccio (1942), and also created a role in Carl Orff's Der Mond (1939). He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1964.
