Antonio Volponi

An Italian bass in secondary roles. He was Ceprano in Rigoletto at La Fenice in Venice in 1886, and a herald in Franchetti's Asrael and Don Diego in L'Africaine there in 1891-92. At La Scala he created the police commissioner in Giordano's Siberia on 19 December 1903, and two months later, on 17 February 1904, the imperial commissioner in Madama Butterfly. At the Teatro Regio in Parma he sang Lützow in Germania and Geronte in Manon Lescaut in 1905, Monterone and the sansculotte Mathieu in 1907, and Hans Schwarz when Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg reached Parma in 1910.
