Marie Tiffany
also Marie Berg Tiffany, Marie Berg
Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois, United States
An American soprano who spent twelve years at the Metropolitan Opera, mostly in comprimario roles. Born Marie Berg in Chicago, she was a church soloist in Pasadena for sixteen years before moving to New York in 1916, where she made her Met debut as the Milliner in Der Rosenkavalier. At the first Il trittico in 1918 she was the only singer to appear in all three operas: as one of the lovers in Il tabarro, a lay sister in Suor Angelica and Nella in Gianni Schicchi. Nella was also her last role at the Met, in 1928.
