Curt Taucher

Curt Taucher was a German tenor who studied with Heinrich Hermann in Munich and made his stage debut at Augsburg in 1908 as Faust. He sang at Chemnitz and Hanover before joining the Dresden Staatsoper in 1920, remaining until his retirement in 1934, and there created the title role of Weill's Der Protagonist (1926) and Menelas in Strauss's Die ägyptische Helena (1928). He sang at the Metropolitan Opera from 1923 to 1927 as Siegmund, Siegfried, Tannhäuser, Tristan and Parsifal, and appeared at Covent Garden in 1932 in the same repertory. His voice was strong and reliable, if not especially ingratiating.
