Enrico Tamberlik
also Enrico Tamberlick
Birthplace: Rome, Papal States
Enrico Tamberlik was an Italian tenor, among the foremost heroic tenors of his time, who created Don Alvaro in La forza del destino at St Petersburg in 1862. Trained in Rome, Naples and Bologna, he sang in Naples from 1841. His debut at Covent Garden, as Masaniello in 1850, began years of regular seasons there, including the first London Manrico in Il trovatore. He also sang in Paris, Madrid, Moscow and Buenos Aires, and toured Spain in 1881, past sixty. A ringing top and a fast vibrato went with a handsome, exciting stage presence.
