Willy Störring

Willy Störring was a German Heldentenor, trained originally as a blacksmith, who studied singing in Cologne and made his stage debut there in 1927 as Manrico. He sang in Düsseldorf and at the Berlin State Opera before small engagements at the Bayreuth Festival in 1933 and 1934, then joined the Nationaltheater Weimar in 1936, creating the title role in the revised, 1940 version of Strauss's Guntram. From 1947 he sang at the Hagen municipal theatre, officially retiring in 1952 but continuing to give guest performances there until 1972. His roles included Rienzi, Radamès and Siegfried.
