Francesco Signorini

Francesco Signorini was an Italian tenor who created the title role in the 1886 Modena Don Carlo. Trained at Rome's Accademia di Santa Cecilia, he made his 1882 debut at Florence's Politeama and struggled for early recognition, studying further under the teacher who became his wife. A December 1890 Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana at Florence's Teatro Pagliano launched an international career that took him to Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Paris and La Scala, in the Italian repertoire of Verdi, Rossini and Meyerbeer. He retired while still in good voice and taught singing in Rome.
