José Segura Tallien

A Catalan baritone, born Josep Segura Labarres in Barcelona, who took the name Tallien from his mother's descent from Madame Tallien. His career took off at Valencia in 1907. In 1908 he sang in Louise under Toscanini at La Scala, and in 1909 created Mikali Menko in Alfano's Il principe Zilah at Genoa. Wagner at the Liceu, Wotan at the Teatro Real in Madrid and tours of the Americas followed, and in 1917 he sang Tonio opposite Caruso in Buenos Aires. In 1922 he created Michele in the revised Il tabarro in Rome. He died at Nervi early in 1927.
