Liesel von Schuch

Liesel von Schuch was a German coloratura soprano, daughter of the conductor Ernst von Schuch, who led several Strauss premieres at Dresden, and the soprano Clementine von Schuch-Proska. She made her stage debut at Wiesbaden in 1913 as Violetta, and as a member of the Dresden State Opera created Anna, Christine's chambermaid, in the premiere of Strauss's Intermezzo in 1924. A member of the company until 1935, she then taught singing at the Dresden Hochschule für Musik until 1967, and was made an honorary citizen of the city in 1988, on her 97th birthday.
