Adolph Schöpflin

Adolph Schöpflin was a German bass and Kammersänger who trained as an administrative clerk before turning to singing in 1908 and studying voice in Karlsruhe. He made his stage debut in 1909 at Olmütz and held engagements at Posen, Prague, Essen and Berlin before joining the Dresden State Opera, where he created the Legal Counsellor in the premiere of Strauss's Intermezzo in 1924. He also sang at the Bayreuth Festival in 1924 and at the Zoppot forest opera from 1929 to 1936, and closed his career at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, remaining there until 1944. In 1930 he married the contralto Elfriede Haberkorn.
