Lorenzo Salvi

Lorenzo Salvi was an Italian tenor who created Riccardo in Verdi's first opera, Oberto, at La Scala in 1839 and Edoardo in Un giorno di regno there in 1840. He studied in Naples and made his debut at the Teatro di San Carlo in 1830 in the first Il diluvio universale, and went on to create roles in four more Donizetti operas, among them the title role of Gianni di Parigi and Daniele in Betly. He sang in St Petersburg from 1845 and at Covent Garden from 1847, and in 1851 toured the United States in concert.
