Vincenzo Reschiglian
An Italian baritone who spent twenty years as one of the Metropolitan Opera's indispensable comprimarios. The elder brother of the tenor Giuseppe Reschiglian, he sang Tartaglia at Turin on 17 January 1901 in Mascagni's Le maschere, one of six premieres of the opera that night. After seasons with Oscar Hammerstein's Manhattan Opera, he joined the Met in 1909 and gave 1,577 performances there, creating Bello in La fanciulla del West and Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi and singing in the world premiere of Giordano's Madame Sans-Gêne. He retired in 1929 to Bergamo, where he died.
