Ferdinand Prévôt
also Pierre Ferdinand Prévôt, Ferdinand Prévot, Prévost, Monsieur Prévost
Birthplace: Caussade, French Republic
Ferdinand Prévôt was a French baritone of the Paris Opéra, where in 1847 he created the soldier in Verdi's Jérusalem. The son of a singer, he was in the Opéra chorus by 1818 and made his solo debut in 1824 in Grétry's Anacréon chez Polycrate. Over some thirty years he took many minor roles, among them Leuthold in the first Guillaume Tell, Armfelt in Auber's Gustave III, de Méru in Les Huguenots and the High Priest in Gounod's Sapho. A critic of 1846 found him never positively good or bad. His wife's sister was the Opéra soprano Constance Jawurek.
