1846 (disputed)–1917 · Italian · soprano, mezzo-soprano

Birthplace: Venice, Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia

Antonietta Pozzoni was an Italian soprano, later a mezzo-soprano, who created the title role of Aida in Cairo in 1871. She studied in St Petersburg and Milan, made her debut at La Scala in 1865 as Marguerite in Faust, and married the tenor Salvatore Anastasi the same year. Her Violetta in Florence in 1871 brought her to Verdi's attention. She sang in the first performance of Gomes's Salvator Rosa at Genoa in 1874, then turned increasingly to mezzo-soprano parts, Amneris, Azucena and Ortrud among them, and took her farewell at the Teatro di San Carlo in 1887, in La favorita.
