Alessandro Polonini
Birthplace: Crema, Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia
An Italian bass-baritone with a career of some forty years in comic and character parts, the son of the bass Eutimio Polonini. Born in Crema, he created the surgeon in La forza del destino at St Petersburg in 1862, and in the 1880s sang Figaro, Escamillo and a run of operettas at the Teatro Solís in Montevideo. At the Teatro Regio in Turin he was the house's first Beckmesser, and there created Geronte in Manon Lescaut in 1893 and both Benoît and Alcindoro in La bohème in 1896. He was still singing the Sacristan in Tosca at Parma in 1901.
