Gaetano Pini-Corsi

An Italian tenor who began in lyric roles and made his name in character parts. Born in Zara, the younger brother of the baritone Antonio Pini-Corsi, he spent his early career as Almaviva, Ernesto and Fra Diavolo across Italy and Latin America. From 1898 La Scala used him as David in Die Meistersinger, Mime in Siegfried and Bardolfo in Falstaff, and there in 1904 he created Goro in Madama Butterfly, repeating it in the revised version at Brescia that May. He was still singing Goro in 1932.
