Sven Nilsson

Sven Nilsson was a Swedish bass who trained in Stockholm with Gillis Bratt and Hjaldis Ingebjarth, then with Ivar Andresen in Dresden from 1928 to 1930. He was a member of the Dresden State Opera from 1930 to 1944, singing in the company's premieres of Strauss's Arabella in 1933 and creating Peneios in the premiere of Daphne in 1938, and also appeared at the Zoppot Festival from 1934 to 1942. From 1946 he was a member of Stockholm's Royal Theatre for the rest of his career, making his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1950 as Daland and guesting in London, Milan, Amsterdam, Brussels and Barcelona. His roles included Osmin, Sarastro, Pogner and Baron Ochs.
