Constance Nantier-Didiée

Constance Nantier-Didiée was a French mezzo-soprano with a wide repertory of comic, dramatic and travesty roles. She studied with Duprez at the Paris Conservatoire and made her debut in Turin in 1850, in Mercadante's La vestale. At Covent Garden from 1853 she sang in the English premieres of Rigoletto and Benvenuto Cellini, and she sang Urbain at the opening of the present theatre in 1858, appearing there until 1864; Meyerbeer and Gounod wrote additional music for her in Dinorah and Faust. She created Preziosilla in La forza del destino at St Petersburg in 1862, and died in Madrid aged 36.
