Pietro Mongini
also Pietro Giovanni Mongini
Birthplace: Rome, Papal States
Pietro Mongini was an Italian tenor who created Radamès in Verdi's Aida at Cairo in 1871. After service in the papal and Roman Republican armies, he began to sing as a bass in 1851, but by the next season he was singing tenor at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. He first sang in Paris in 1855 and at La Scala in 1858, as Arnold in Guillaume Tell. From 1859 he sang often in London, where he was the first Henri in Les vêpres siciliennes and the first Alvaro in La forza del destino. His voice was brilliant, not subtle.
