Edoardo Missiano
An Italian baritone, the friend who discovered Enrico Caruso's voice in Naples and found him his first singing teacher. He joined the Metropolitan Opera in November 1908 and sang small parts there for three seasons, creating José Castro in La fanciulla del West on 10 December 1910 and singing in the American premiere of Franchetti's Germania that January. He died in New York in December 1911. Caruso gave his fee for that week's La Gioconda to Missiano's widow in Naples, and promised the proceeds of a recorded duet with Pasquale Amato to his three children.
