Raffaele Mirate

Raffaele Mirate was an Italian tenor who created the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at La Fenice in 1851. A pupil of Crescentini, he made his debut in 1837 at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples in Donizetti's Torquato Tasso, then sang at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris and at La Scala, and in Verdi's I due Foscari and Giovanna d'Arco in Rome. After appearances in Boston and New York in 1856, he sang Leicester in Maria Stuarda at the Teatro di San Carlo and took part there in the premiere of Mercadante's Virginia in 1866.
