Willi Merkert

Willi Merkert was a German bass who created the Bugler in the premiere of Strauss's Friedenstag at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1938. He continued to sing there into the 1950s, in roles including the Gaoler in Tosca. Little else about his career is recorded.
