Anna Masetti Bassi

An Italian mezzo-soprano who created the Abbess in the revised Suor Angelica at La Scala on 29 January 1922. At the Teatro Comunale in Bologna from 1919 she sang a geisha in Iris, the mother in Guido Guerrini's Nemici, the Countess and Madelon in Andrea Chénier and Meg Page in Falstaff. For Columbia she recorded with the forces of La Scala under Lorenzo Molajoli, among them complete sets of Rigoletto, Manon Lescaut and an Andrea Chénier made in February 1931.
