Adolphe Maréchal

A Belgian tenor, the first Rodolfo in Paris and the first Jean in Massenet's Le jongleur de Notre-Dame. He studied at the Liège Conservatory, made his debut at Dijon in 1891 and sang in the French provinces before joining the Opéra-Comique in 1895. There he created Rodolfo in the first Paris La bohème in 1898, Julien in Charpentier's Louise in 1900 and Alain in Massenet's Grisélidis in 1901. In 1902 he created Jean at Monte Carlo and made his Covent Garden debut, as Don José. A crisis of voice and health ended his career in 1907.
