Margherita Manfredi
An Italian mezzo-soprano who created Kate Pinkerton in the first Madama Butterfly at La Scala on 17 February 1904. She had created the page Dimitri in Giordano's Fedora in 1898 and, at the Teatro Lirico in Milan, Floriana in Leoncavallo's Zazà in 1900, and she sang in Alfano's Risurrezione at La Scala in 1905-06. In the carnival season of 1908-09 at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa she was a Valkyrie, Marta in Mefistofele and the Tzigana in the premiere of Alfano's Il principe Zilah, and in 1909 she sang Mercedes and Anaide at the Coliseo in Buenos Aires.
