Rachel Launay

A French soprano of the Opéra-Comique who later appeared on the Paris stage and in films. Born in Paris, she made her debut at the Opéra-Comique by creating Violette in La reine Fiammette in 1903, and went on to create roles in La coupe enchantée, Snégourotchka and the first Paris Madama Butterfly, as Cio-Cio-San's cousin. Her repertoire ran from Frasquita and Lola to Sophie in Werther and Eurydice. She appeared in five films in 1931 and 1932, and was married from 1916 to 1922 to the actor Jacques de Féraudy.
