Hanns Lange

Hanns Lange was a German tenor and stage director who trained in his native Dresden and made his stage debut at the Semperoper in 1912, beginning as a lyric tenor before moving into buffo and character roles. He remained with the company until it was destroyed in the February 1945 bombing of Dresden, serving as one of its directors from 1938 to 1944, and created Stroh in the premiere of Strauss's Intermezzo in 1924. He then worked at the Dresden Volksoper and, from 1949, as chief director at the Landesbühnen Sachsen in Radebeul. He joined the Nazi Party in 1937 and headed its Reich Theatre Chamber for Saxony.
