Fidèle Kœnig

Fidèle Kœnig was a French tenor who spent his career in the chorus and small parts of the Paris Opéra, where he was a coryphaeus by 1855. The son of a Paris saddler, he began there around 1846 and created Cratès in Gounod's Sapho in 1851, the night watchman and Arnold in Gounod's La nonne sanglante in 1854 and a soldier in Poniatowski's Pierre de Médicis in 1860, and sang Heinrich der Schreiber in the Paris Tannhäuser of 1861. Le Figaro called him the prototype of the coryphaeus. He sang at the Concerts du Conservatoire from 1843 to 1878.
