Camilla Kallab

Camilla Kallab was an Austrian mezzo-soprano who trained at the Frankfurt Conservatory and in Berlin, and made her stage debut at Karlsruhe in 1930. She was engaged at the Dresden State Opera from 1930 to 1934, creating Adelaide in the world premiere of Strauss's Arabella in 1933, and sang at the Leipzig Opera from 1934 to 1944 and, from 1949, the Komische Oper Berlin. Her repertory ranged from Wagner to Verdi and Strauss, and she appeared under conductors including Wilhelm Furtwängler and Strauss himself, following an acclaimed 1932 Munich performance as Adriano in Wagner's Rienzi.
