Margarethe Junker-Burchardt

Margarethe Junker-Burchardt, born Burchardt, was a German soprano who made her stage debut in 1902 at Rostock, then held engagements at Schwerin from 1904, where she created the title role in the 1905 premiere of Oscar von Chelius's Die vernarrte Prinzessin, and at Hanover from 1907. She joined the Stuttgart Court Opera in 1911, remaining until her retirement in 1920, and created the Naiad in the premiere of Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in 1912 and Nele in the premiere of Walter Braunfels's Der Ulenspiegel in 1913. She appeared as a guest at Covent Garden in 1906, singing Gutrune in Götterdämmerung and Margiana in Cornelius's Der Barbier von Bagdad, and her repertoire ran from Pamina and Senta to Mimì, Micaela and the title role of Mignon. She married the actor and director Kurt Junker in 1908, performing under his name thereafter.
