Gwendolyn Jones

Gwendolyn Jones is an American mezzo-soprano who studied with Inez Lunsford Silberg at Oklahoma City University and won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1968, at nineteen. She made her stage debut at San Francisco Opera in 1972 as Wellgunde in Das Rheingold and stayed there as a resident artist until 1980. She created Isabella in Antonio Braga's 1492 epopea lirica d'America in Santo Domingo in 1992, and has sung with New York City Opera, New Orleans Opera, Houston Grand Opera and Seattle Opera among many others, still appearing with Pensacola Opera in 2011.
