Eva Johnn

Eva Johnn was a Swedish soprano who joined the Dresden State Opera ensemble in May 1928, creating the Second Elf in the premiere of Strauss's Die ägyptische Helena that year. She married the conductor Heinz Röttger secretly in 1941, and later sang as a dramatic soprano at the Rostock Volkstheater under her married name, Johnn-Röttger, from 1949 to 1953. There she took on major Wagner roles including Venus in Tannhäuser, Senta in Der fliegende Holländer, and Brünnhilde in Die Walküre and Siegfried, cast in the first Ring cycle staged in East Germany, begun at Rostock in 1952.
